Devin Miranda American Horse, Illegal Firearm Possession, Montana 2023

Devin Miranda American Horse, a 34-year-old Billings felon, was sentenced to 16 months in prison for illegally possessing a rifle after fleeing law enforcement.

A U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters handed down the sentence on an unspecified date, which will be followed by three years of supervised release, according to U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich.

The incident occurred on February 2023, when a Billings police officer observed four or five people sitting in a car outside a residence. Before making contact, the driver fled, and the officer chased but did not catch the driver.

As the officer ran by the car, he recognized Devin Miranda American Horse as the front seat passenger. The car fled the scene and was stopped a short time later. The owner and driver told officers that American Horse had fled with a rifle.

Police found American Horse hiding in some bushes and a rifle nearby. American Horse was arrested on a parole violation for a 2019 felony drug conviction in Yellowstone County. She was prohibited from possessing firearms.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Harper Suek prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Billings Police Department.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that this case is part of a broader effort to reduce violent crime and gun violence in Billings and surrounding areas.
