Armed Bank Robbery Rocks Orlando Community

A federal jury in Orlando, Florida, has found Dewarren Antoine Lewis, aka "Fella," guilty of two counts of bank robbery with assault and two counts of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Lewis, 28, of Orlando, faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in federal prison on the bank robbery convictions, followed by a mandatory minimum consecutive penalty of 32 years in federal prison on the firearms convictions. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 4, 2013.

According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, Lewis robbed the Wells Fargo Bank in Orlando at gunpoint on January 9, 2013, fleeing with over $9,000. On March 20, 2013, he robbed the Regions Bank in Orlando. Lewis wore a disguise to commit both robberies, pointing a gun at bank employees and forcing his way behind the teller line.

During the second robbery, Lewis was seen fleeing the bank, discarding his disguise, and driving away from the scene. A witness described the high-speed chase that followed, during which Lewis bailed out of his car and ran away on foot. He was apprehended by Orange County deputies and found carrying a bag filled with over $23,000, stolen from the Regions Bank.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joseph M. Schuster.

Lewis’ conviction marks a significant blow to the Orlando community, which has been plagued by a series of brazen bank robberies in recent months. As the investigation into Lewis’ activities continues, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
