Washington D.C., April 16, 1914 – In a shocking turn of events, Mexican dictator Victoriano Huerta has made a last-ditch attempt to avoid war with the United States. After a heated standoff with American Marines in the port city of Tampico, Huerta has promised Charge O’Shaughnessy that he will salute the Stars and Stripes in a gesture of apology. The condition, however, is that American warships must fire a salute in acknowledgement, a move seen as a concession to Huerta’s pride.
