PARKERSVILLE, MS – The final nail in the coffin of the Simon City Royals gang was driven home today as Dillon Heffker, the 37th and final defendant, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy. The sprawling federal investigation, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), has effectively dismantled a violent criminal enterprise that held Mississippi’s prisons – and communities – hostage for years.
The Simon City Royals weren’t just a prison gang; they were a sophisticated criminal network with tendrils reaching throughout Mississippi, Louisiana, and beyond. According to court documents, the Royals aligned themselves with the notorious Gangster Disciples, building a structure that facilitated a litany of crimes: murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, witness tampering, money laundering, interstate travel in aid of racketeering, and large-scale drug trafficking. The group operated both inside and outside correctional facilities, turning prisons into command centers for their illicit activities.
The investigation unearthed chilling details of the gang’s brutality, most notably the premeditated murder of a prison inmate in 2018. A Simon City Royals leader issued a direct “kill on sight” order, targeting a specific inmate. Dillon Heffker and Robert Williams acted on that order, repeatedly stabbing the victim with makeshift prison weapons. The reward for this cold-blooded act? Hundreds of dollars deposited into their prison commissary accounts, a grim illustration of the gang’s internal reward system.

Byerley emphasized the power of multi-agency cooperation in bringing down such a dangerous organization.
While Heffker’s guilty plea marks the end of the prosecution, the fallout from this case will be felt for years to come.
