Doctor’s Fury Lands Him in Jail

Doctor sentenced for assault

Craig Maskil, a 58-year-old doctor from Wisconsin, was sentenced to 12 months of supervised probation for Assault by Striking, Beating, and Wounding. The conviction stems from an incident that took place on July 11, 2014, at the Rosebud Indian Health Service Hospital on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation.

According to the investigation, Maskil had a disagreement with another doctor at work and hit the victim in the head with his fists. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.

Maskil was also ordered to pay $25 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher.

U.S. District Judge Mark Moreno presided over the case and imposed the sentence on February 12, 2015. The incident highlights the need for workplace safety and respect for colleagues.

Maskil’s actions were a clear breach of medical ethics and the trust placed in him as a healthcare professional. The sentence serves as a reminder that violence in the workplace will not be tolerated.

The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals, particularly in sensitive environments such as hospitals.
