Jacob Edwin Wilson, False Information and Hoaxes, Montana 2023

Grimy Times Exclusive: A man who admitted making threats to blow up the Dodson school in Montana has been sentenced to 13 months in prison.

Jacob Edwin Wilson, 40, a transient, pleaded guilty in January to false information and hoaxes as charged in an indictment. Wilson made the threats on August 29, 2023, when he called both the Blaine County 911 emergency number and the Dodson school, located near the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

According to court documents, Wilson told the 911 operator and the school that he was ‘about to blow Dodson school up.’ Law enforcement responded quickly, evacuating students and staff from the school to a nearby church parking lot. First responders from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, the Malta Fire Department, and U.S. Border Patrol set up security around the school and searched for an explosive device, but none was found.

Wilson was arrested after calling 911 again and asking for a ride off the reservation. Officers located Wilson and arrested him. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey K. Starnes prosecuted the case.

The FBI, Fort Belknap Tribal Police, Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol, and Malta Fire Department conducted the investigation. U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich commented on the sentencing, saying that it was a necessary step in keeping the community safe.

Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case and ordered $7,000 restitution. Wilson will serve one year and one month in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Grimy Times will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
