Juan Laboy, Illegal Reentry of a Deported Alien, Massachusetts 2018

BOSTON – Juan Laboy, a 44-year-old Dominican national, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States.

On June 14, 2018, Laboy pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry of a deported alien, and today, he was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young to 27 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Laboy, who was on federal supervised release for a 2016 illegal reentry conviction at the time of his arrest, has previously been deported five times: October 18, 2006; January 12, 2008; April 7, 2010; December 3, 2013; and April 5, 2016.

Laboy was arrested on November 14, 2017, and charged with trafficking in cocaine. His prints were obtained and found to match the prints in his Alien file. The cocaine trafficking charges are currently pending in Lawrence District Court.

Following his plea hearing, Laboy appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs for a hearing related to violating his supervised release. Judge Burroughs found Laboy in violation of his supervised release and sentenced him to eight months in prison. Today’s sentence will be served consecutive to the eight months imposed in June.

Laboy’s sentence is a result of an ongoing investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Todd M. Lyons, Acting Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, made the announcement today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Lelling’s Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
