Donnell Berry Pleads Guilty to Federal Bank Robbery Charge

Greenbelt, Maryland – The grimy streets of Prince George’s County saw another disturbing chapter when Donnell Duane Berry, 44, from Forestville, Maryland, entered a guilty plea today for his role in a brazen bank heist. Berry’s crime was compounded by the fact that he was already on supervised release for a previous federal conviction.

The United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Robert K. Hur; Jennifer C. Boone, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office; and Interim Chief Hector Velez of the Prince George’s County Police Department were among those who announced Berry’s plea.

Berry, along with two accomplices, targeted a bank in Lanham on September 4, 2019. Berry penned the demand note for the heist, which was handed to a teller by one of his cohorts. The terrified employee gave up over $4,000 in cash and a GPS tracker before the robbers made their escape.

However, their getaway didn’t last long. Police tracked down the disabled getaway car just five miles from the bank. After afoot chase, Berry and his accomplices were taken into custody. Authorities found the hat worn during the heist, the co-defendant’s wallet, and $3,050 in cash with the bank’s GPS tracker still intact.

Berry will now face between 144 to 204 months in federal prison if the Court accepts the plea agreement. Sentencing is set for December 16, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., before U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel.

U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur praised the investigative efforts of the FBI and the Prince George’s County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin B. Pulice and Dwight Draughon were recognized for their role in the prosecution.
