A shocking incident of gun violence in Savannah’s mall has led to the sentencing of a previously convicted felon to prison on gun charges.
Donte Antonio Johnson, 32, of Los Angeles, California, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for carrying a firearm in a mall, according to the Department of Justice USAO.
Johnson, who has a prior conviction for being an armed career criminal, was arrested in January 2026 after a witness reported seeing him carrying a gun in the mall.
Another previously convicted felon, 35-year-old Darryl Maurice, of Sacramento, California, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for firing shots in a neighborhood.
Maurice, who has a prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon, was arrested in February 2026 after a 911 call reported hearing gunshots in the area.
Both defendants were charged with violating federal laws related to firearms, and their prison sentences reflect the severity of these charges.
According to the court records, Johnson’s sentence includes a 10-year prison term, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. Maurice’s sentence includes a 12-year prison term, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release.
