A 24-year-old Junction City woman was brutally murdered after being kidnapped by a group of men, including Drexel A. Woody, a 26-year-old man from Geary County, Kansas.
According to court documents, Woody and his co-defendants met the victim, Amanda Clemons, at a hotel in Junction City on February 7, 2014. They demanded she pay $300, but when she refused, they beat her in retribution for comments she had made on social media.
The group took Clemons to another hotel room, then to Woody’s residence on Fort Riley, where they allowed her to call her son and mother. However, fearing arrest, they transported her to a remote area of Geary County, where they resumed the beating and attacked her with a knife.
Clemons broke free and jumped off a 15-foot bridge, but the group found her in the snow and continued the assault, ultimately cutting her throat and killing her.
Woody pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping resulting in death. He is set to be sentenced on January 30 and faces up to life in federal prison.
Co-defendants Larry L. Anderson, Marryssa M. Middleton, Shantrell D. Woody, and Christopher Pugh are awaiting trial.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Junction City Police Department, the Grandview Plaza Police Department, the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, the Riley County Police Department, the Fort Riley Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, and local authorities.
