Drug Kingpin Sanchez-Carrillo Jailed for Meth & Illegal Gun Possession

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Kevin Enrique Sanchez-Carrillo, 25, a Mexican national, has been sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment for trafficking methamphetamine and illegal firearm possession. The sentence was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Dale A. Kimball.

In addition to his prison term, Sanchez-Carrillo will face deportation following his release due to his undocumented status in the United States. The court also ordered the forfeiture of $7,750 in cash, a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun, and associated ammunition.

Sanchez-Carrillo’s criminal activity was uncovered when a confidential informant purchased meth from him in March 2025. Law enforcement executed search warrants on his apartment and vehicle on April 3, where they found over 11,000 grams of methamphetamine, 1,249 grams of fentanyl, 571 grams of heroin, 15 grams of cocaine, and the firearm.

Sanchez-Carrillo confessed to possessing the drugs for distribution and knowing he was prohibited from owning a firearm due to his illegal presence in the U.S. He also admitted entering the country on or after December 14, 2023, without inspection by immigration officers and failing to register as an alien.

“Pumping poison into our communities won’t be tolerated,” Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti stated. “Sanchez-Carrillo’s sentence sends a message that breaking federal laws carries serious consequences.”

The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted the investigation, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah handling the prosecution. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a DOJ initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations.
