Christian Whiteman, Abusive Sexual Contact by Force, South Dakota 2023

A disturbing case of child abuse has come to light in South Dakota, where a Dupree man has been sentenced for his egregious crimes. Christian Whiteman, 21, was found guilty of Abusive Sexual Contact by Force, a serious offense that has left a community in shock.

According to the evidence presented in court, Whiteman engaged in sexual contact with a five-year-old child on multiple occasions between October 1, 2012, and May 29, 2013. The young victim tried to resist Whiteman’s advances, saying no and attempting to push him away, but he was too heavy and continued to touch the child despite their protests.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case with the utmost diligence, ensuring that justice was served.

On January 21, 2015, Whiteman pled guilty to a Superseding Information charging him with Abusive Sexual Contact by Force. This marked a significant development in the case, as Whiteman had initially been indicted for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child on July 15, 2014.

U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange presided over the sentencing hearing on April 6, 2015. In a stern verdict, Whiteman was sentenced to 120 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, $43.20 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The community is breathing a sigh of relief now that justice has been served, but the incident has left a lasting impact on the young victim and their family. As the case serves as a stark reminder, child abuse is a serious crime that will not be tolerated.

Whiteman was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence. The case is a somber reminder of the importance of protecting our children and holding perpetrators accountable for their heinous crimes.
