Jayme Lee Rivers, Failing to Register as Sex Offender, South Dakota 2023

Dupree Sex Offender Sentenced for Failing to Register

Pierre, SD – A Dupree man has been slapped with a stiff sentence for failing to register as a sex offender, a federal judge ruled today.

44-year-old Jayme Lee Rivers, also known as Jayme Lee Two Crow, was sentenced to eight months in federal prison, four months in a residential re-entry center, five years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.

Rivers was indicted by a federal grand jury in December of 2023 for failing to update his sex offender registration after being kicked out of a Rapid City homeless shelter in April of 2023. He had registered a homeless shelter in Rapid City as his primary address, but chose not to update his registration until he moved to Dupree in late August of 2023.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. The program brings together law enforcement and community leaders to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Carl Thunem handling the prosecution. Rivers was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.

This is a clear example of the consequences of not taking responsibility for one’s actions, especially when it comes to crimes involving vulnerable populations. We urge anyone who has information about similar crimes to come forward and help us keep our communities safe.

The U.S. Department of Justice continues to prioritize cases like this one, and we will not hesitate to take action against those who fail to comply with the law.

Rivers’ sentence sends a strong message that failing to register as a sex offender will not be tolerated in our communities.

This case is a reminder that public safety is a top priority, and we will do everything in our power to protect our citizens.

We will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
