Dvonte Amir King, False Statements to Purchase Firearm, Mississippi 2020

In a case of deceit and firearms, Dvonte Amir King, a 23-year-old from Vicksburg, Mississippi, has been sentenced to 12 months in federal prison for making false statements to a licensed firearms dealer and providing false information on an official form.

According to the indictment, on June 4, 2018, King attempted to purchase a firearm from a local Vicksburg retailer. When filling out the standard form for background checks, ATF Form 4473, King marked that he had never been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. However, the truth was far from it.

In reality, King had been convicted of misdemeanor domestic assault in the Municipal Court of the City of Vicksburg six months prior to his attempt to purchase the firearm, on November 28, 2017. As a result, he was prohibited from purchasing firearms under federal law. Furthermore, putting false information on the firearm form is a federal offense.

King was charged in a federal criminal indictment and plead guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Tom S. Lee on September 10, 2020. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with Assistant United States Attorney Bert Carraway handling the prosecution.

King’s sentence includes 12 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. The consequences of his actions serve as a reminder of the importance of honesty when dealing with firearms and the severe penalties that come with attempting to deceive the system.

This case highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring public safety and upholding the law, even in cases where individuals may attempt to circumvent the system.
