Dwayne L. Roush, Tax Evasion, Oklahoma 2014

A local physician has been brought to justice for failing to file a federal tax return for 2011, announced Sanford C. Coats, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.

Dwayne L. Roush, a physician from Yukon, Oklahoma, who is practicing in Purcell, Oklahoma, was sentenced yesterday to serve 36 months of probation and ordered to pay $340,652.53 in restitution to the IRS.

The 36-month probation period, coupled with the substantial restitution, serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of tax evasion. Roush’s actions not only cheated the system but also placed an undue burden on honest taxpayers.

Roush was charged by information on May 22, 2014, with failing to file a federal tax return for 2011. He pled guilty on June 10, 2014. As part of his guilty plea, Roush agreed to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service for six tax years, including 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

This case is the result of an investigation by IRS Criminal Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julia E. Barry. The successful prosecution of Roush demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to holding individuals accountable for their actions.

Not only did Roush have to pay the $340,652.53 in restitution, but he also had to pay a $1,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service. The community service requirement is a vital component of the sentence, as it allows Roush to give back to the community he has wronged.

Roush’s case serves as a warning to individuals who may be tempted to engage in tax evasion. The consequences are severe, and the penalties are steep. It is essential for individuals to comply with tax laws and regulations to avoid facing similar outcomes.
