San Diego, California – A convicted felon has been brought to justice for his role in a gun and narcotics trafficking operation. Dwight Wayne Jordan, 60, pleaded guilty to possessing 11 firearms and dealing crack cocaine, cocaine, and heroin.
According to court documents, Jordan was driving a BMW X3 on September 8, 2018, when a San Diego Police Department officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, Jordan initially yielded, but then accelerated and attempted to flee, running two red lights. While attempting to evade the officer, Jordan threw a bag from the window that was subsequently recovered by the SDPD. The bag contained approximately two kilograms of cocaine.
After the vehicle was stopped and Jordan was arrested, officers recovered more than $6,900 in cash that was admittedly the proceeds of narcotics trafficking.
On September 18, 2018, law enforcement executed follow-up search warrants at two locations associated with Jordan in San Diego. Those searches yielded eleven firearms, $36,499 in cash, and significant quantities of cocaine base, cocaine, and heroin.
Jordan admitted that he illegally possessed the eleven firearms and the drugs, which he intended to further distribute. Due to his prior drug felony conviction, Jordan is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
Jordan’s plea agreement includes forfeiture of each of the eleven firearms and associated ammunition, $43,440 in United States currency, and a 2013 Porsche Cayenne in which a portion of the narcotics proceeds were located.
Jordan is scheduled to be sentenced on February 15, 2019, before U.S. District Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel in San Diego. The federal narcotics charge carries a mandatory minimum ten-year sentence and a maximum life sentence, while the firearms-related charge carries a maximum 10-year sentence.
This case is the result of the ongoing efforts of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCEDTF), a partnership that brings together the combined expertise and unique abilities of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
