A South Dakota man is behind bars for hiding a serious crime.
Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that Eugene Condon, 35, was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a $100 fine and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund for Misprision of a Felony.
Condon was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 15, 2014, for Possession and Sale of a Stolen Firearm. However, he changed his plea to Misprision of a Felony on February 3, 2015.
The conviction arose from an incident that occurred on October 4, 2013, at Eagle Butte, when Condon failed to report a serious crime, even though he was present and very aware that a federal crime had been committed.
This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.
Eagle Butte is a small town located in Pennington County, South Dakota.
Condon’s sentence is a warning to those who think they can hide serious crimes. The court has made it clear that those who fail to report crimes will face the consequences.
