Earl Eggleton, Making False Statements to Purchase Firearms, Pennsylvania 2021

A Pittsburgh man has been charged with making false statements to purchase firearms, violating federal firearm laws, according to an indictment unsealed in Pittsburgh.

Earl Eggleton, 51, of Duncan Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is accused of making false statements during the purchase of firearms on six separate occasions, including June 28, 2020, October 18, 2020, November 23, 2020, January 27, 2021, and twice on February 7, 2021.

The indictment, which was returned on September 28 and unsealed today, charges Eggleton with six counts of making false statements during the purchase of firearms.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The investigation was conducted by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The federal law provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than 10 years, a fine of not more than $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the offense and Eggleton’s prior criminal history, if any.

An indictment is an accusation, and Eggleton is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Eggleton’s case is a reminder of the importance of upholding federal firearm laws and ensuring that those who attempt to skirt them are held accountable.
