Felon Caught with 9 mm Handgun
East St. Louis Man Demetrius Booker, 28, has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On April 29, 2015, Booker appeared in United States District Court in East St. Louis, where he pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with the crime. According to the indictment, Booker was found to be in possession of a 9 mm handgun on October 19, 2014.
This is not the first time Booker has been in trouble with the law. Prior to the date of the handgun discovery, Booker had been convicted of a felony offense, making it illegal under federal law for him to possess firearms or ammunition.
The case was investigated by the East St. Louis Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Michael Hallock handling the prosecution.
Booker has been held without bond in the custody of the United States Marshal since his arrest on the federal charges. He will be returned to the Marshal’s custody to await sentencing.
Booker is set to be sentenced on August 7, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. at the United States District Courthouse in East St. Louis. At that time, he faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release to follow his incarceration. The firearms and ammunition he illegally possessed will also be forfeited to the United States.
