ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The grim halls of justice were once again echoing with the sound of a crime that spans borders and defies the rule of law. Segundo Juan Maynato-Guaman, a 46-year-old citizen of Ecuador, also known as Segundo Juan Mainato-Guaman, has been charged by criminal complaint with re-entry of a removed alien. This charge carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Testani revealed the chilling details of the case. According to the complaint, on June 25, 2025, Rochester Border Patrol Agents stopped Maynato-Guaman’s vehicle at the intersection of Brockport-Spencerport Road and Washington Street. When queried about his citizenship, he simply replied, “Ecuador.” He then presented a New York State identification card under a different name, Segundo Mainato-Guaman. Confession was not far behind as Maynato-Guaman admitted to being in the United States illegally, stating, “I do not have any documents.”
The truth came to light with a records check that uncovered a dark past. In December 2009, Maynato-Guaman was physically removed from the United States. This case is one of many under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities.
Operation Take Back America marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguard our neighborhoods from violent crime. The initiative streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
Maynato-Guaman appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Colleen D. Holland, where he was detained without bail. This investigation was a result of diligent work by U.S. Border Patrol, under the direction of Patrol Agent-in-Charge Juan Ramirez, Jr.
The complaint against Maynato-Guaman is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. # # # #
