Bank robber Eddie Estuardo Galindo-Mendez, 44, was sentenced to just under 5 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to bank robbery in Lubbock, Texas.
On November 9, Galindo-Mendez was sentenced for robbing Lubbock’s Happy State Bank in November 2017.
According to court documents, Galindo-Mendez approached a teller dressed in a large coat, gloves, hat, and sunglasses, handing the teller a note threatening an active bomb.
The would-be bomber placed what appeared to be a pipe bomb next to the teller’s computer and demanded the money before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
An investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms determined the device, made from a galvanized pipe and wires wrapped in duct tape connected to a cell phone, was inert.
Galindo-Mendez now faces time behind bars for the brazen heist. The sentence marks a guilty plea for the defendant, who has been held accountable for the 2017 bank robbery.
This case is a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and swift law enforcement action in preventing and punishing violent crime.
