Jacksonville Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Federal Prison for Narcotics and Firearms Offenses

Edgar Guintivano, a 52-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

Guintivano entered a guilty plea on November 16, 2023. This serious crime has led to severe consequences for the defendant.

On February 21, 2023, officers from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department conducted a traffic stop due to Guintivano not having a valid driver’s license. During the stop, they discovered 256 grams of methamphetamine in his vehicle. In addition to the narcotics, Guintivano had a loaded Glock pistol on his person, as well as two batons.

Further investigation revealed that there was an additional firearm inside the vehicle, as well as seven knives in the driver’s door panel. The discovery of these weapons and narcotics highlights the severity of this case.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Jacksonville Beach Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.

In a statement, the court highlighted the importance of this program in making our neighborhoods safer. The program was launched on May 26, 2021, with the goal of strengthening PSN based on core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
