Kansas City, MO – In a shocking turn of events, Edgar Sanchez-Solis, a 24-year-old Mexican national, pleaded guilty to his role in an international human smuggling conspiracy that brought hundreds of aliens from Mexico and Central and South America into the United States.
According to court documents, Sanchez-Solis was a key player in an alien smuggling organization (ASO) operating in Kansas City, Missouri. The ASO employed a network of drivers to transport the smuggled aliens deeper into the country. Sanchez-Solis personally coordinated smuggling events and participated in at least one high-speed chase with U.S. Border Patrol in May 2023.
The chase, which involved a van carrying aliens, was eventually stopped by the local sheriff’s department after they deployed a tire deflation device. Sanchez-Solis’s guilty plea comes after a thorough investigation into the ASO’s activities.
Sanchez-Solis pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit alien smuggling and five counts of alien smuggling for commercial advantage. His sentencing is pending, but he faces up to 10 years in prison for each of the alien smuggling counts and up to 5 years for the conspiracy charge.
The case highlights the ongoing issue of human smuggling across the U.S.-Canada border.
