Edison Brady, Deadly Stabbing, New Mexico 2024

Shiprock, New Mexico – July 25, 2024

A deadly stabbing shook the small town of Shiprock, New Mexico, on July 25, 2024. Edison Brady, a 55-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, has been charged with second-degree murder.

According to witnesses, Brady punched and kicked the victim before retrieving a knife from his backpack and stabbing him. Despite life-saving measures, the victim was later pronounced dead at Northern Navajo Medical Center.

The Navajo Nation Police Department responded to reports of a fight in progress near a business in Shiprock, New Mexico, and upon arrival, officers found the victim unresponsive on the ground with apparent wounds to his face and chest.

Brady appeared before a federal judge on [current date] and will remain in custody pending a detention hearing, which is set for Wednesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, in collaboration with the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations, investigated this case. U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.

Assistant United States Attorney Zachary C. Jones is prosecuting the case, which alleges that Brady punched and kicked the victim before stabbing him. If convicted, Brady faces up to life in prison.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
