A Springfield man has been brought to justice for his role in a firearms trafficking ring.

Edward Nathan Gale, 24, pleaded guilty on February 23, 2024, in federal court in Springfield to charges related to his possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as his dealings in illegal firearms.

According to authorities, Gale manufactured and distributed approximately 50 ‘ghost guns’ to individuals in Kansas and Massachusetts between February 22, 2022, and December 2, 2022. He also imported approximately 100 Glock-style machinegun conversion devices from China, distributing 60 of them in Massachusetts and elsewhere.

On January 5, 2023, a search of Gale’s residence resulted in the recovery of a Pioneer Arms semi-automatic rifle, numerous rounds of ammunition, tools used to manufacture ghost guns, and evidence of Gale’s importation and distribution of Glock switches.

Gale’s possession of the rifle and ammunition was illegal due to his prior conviction of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison. He was also not licensed to manufacture or distribute firearms, making his dealings in ghost guns and Glock switches a serious offense.

Gale faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison on the charge of felon in possession of firearm and ammunition, five years in prison on the charge of unlawful firearms dealing, and 10 years in prison on the charge of unlawful possession of machineguns.

He also faces a maximum of three years of supervised release on each count and has agreed to the forfeiture of a Pioneer Arms rifle and various tools used to manufacture ghost guns. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes.
