LOS ANGELES, CA – In a disturbing case of exploitation, a Los Angeles man has been convicted of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion. Elias Shabazz, 35, was found guilty by a federal jury in the Central District of California on June 26, 2026.
According to court documents, Shabazz preyed on a vulnerable victim, using physical and sexual violence, as well as cruel psychological coercion, to compel commercial sex acts for his own profit. The victim, who has not been named, showed remarkable courage in facing her trafficker in court.
The conviction is a significant blow to sex traffickers, who often use violence, intimidation, and control to manipulate their victims. “Sex trafficking matters rank among the most tragic cases our office prosecutes,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli for the Central District of California. “This defendant will now face many years in a federal prison cell for his sick, disgusting, and disturbing behavior.”
The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles Field Office, with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. “This case highlights HSI’s determination to rescue victims from exploitation and ensure that those who commit such cruel and violent acts are held accountable,” said Special Agent in Charge Eddy Wang of HSI Los Angeles Field Office.
Shabazz’s conviction is a testament to the bravery of the victim and the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies to bring sex traffickers to justice. The case serves as a reminder that sex trafficking is a serious crime that will not be tolerated in civilized society.
The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date, where he will face the consequences of his actions.
