A Florida man, Eliseo Sierra, 43, has been sentenced to five years of probation for federal program theft. Sierra, a former operations manager at Lincoln Charter School in York, Pennsylvania, embezzled over $78,000 from the school in 2014.
According to Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Sierra stole the money while he was employed at the school, which received grants funded by the U.S. Department of Education. He previously repaid the school approximately $16,000.
Sierra was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer P. Wilson on March 12, 2021. The judge also ordered him to pay $61,337.09 in restitution.
In imposing the probationary sentence, Judge Wilson highlighted Sierra’s medical conditions and the pandemic as a reason for the non-custodial sentence. She also pointed to the age of Sierra’s conduct.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli prosecuted the case.
Sierra’s crimes occurred in 2014, when he was employed as an operations manager at Lincoln Charter School. The school received grants funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Sierra’s sentence includes five years of probation and restitution of $61,337.09. He must also repay the school the remaining amount owed from his initial embezzlement of over $78,000.
The investigation and prosecution of Sierra’s case were handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli.
