Elkhart Man Catches 14-Year Prison Ride for Methamphetamine Distribution
A 43-year-old man from Elkhart, Indiana, is headed to the slammer for over a decade after pleading guilty to distributing a massive amount of methamphetamine in the South Bend area.
Kenneth Thomas, 43, of Elkhart, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after admitting to the crime. As part of his plea, Thomas was sentenced to 140 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
According to documents in the case, Thomas sold methamphetamine multiple times in the South Bend area between February and March 2023. During the two-week period, Thomas distributed a total of two pounds of methamphetamine. The staggering amount of the highly addictive and destructive drug highlights the severity of the crime.
The case was investigated by a coalition of federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Local law enforcement, including the Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit and the South Bend Police Department, also provided assistance in the case.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Indiana praised the collaborative effort of the agencies involved in the case. ‘This case is a prime example of the teamwork and dedication that is required to take down serious narcotics traffickers,’ said U.S. Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelan McKenzie Doyle handled the prosecution of the case. Thomas’ attorney was not mentioned in the DOJ’s statement.
The sentencing of Thomas serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in narcotics trafficking. The sale and distribution of methamphetamine have devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities, and those who choose to participate in this type of activity will be held accountable.
