Elvins Sylvestre, Drug and Firearm Offenses, Massachusetts 2019

A Pittsfield man has been convicted of multiple drug and firearm offenses in a federal court in Massachusetts.

Elvins Sylvestre, 43, was found guilty by a federal jury in Springfield yesterday following a three-day trial on charges of possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of cocaine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking felony.

The evidence presented at trial established that in November 2019, Sylvestre was found in possession of heroin and cocaine, along with a handgun and over 40 rounds of ammunition.

According to federal law, Sylvestre is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction.

The charges against Sylvestre carry a sentence of up to life in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.

U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni has scheduled sentencing for November 19, 2021.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of the Springfield Branch Office, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division, and the Pittsfield Police Department.

Elvins Sylvestre’s conviction serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in drug trafficking and firearm offenses.
