In a shocking turn of events, Elvis Alfonso Lopez-Perez, a 32-year-old Guatemalan national residing in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for illegally reentering the United States.
According to Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Lopez-Perez was removed from the United States on February 1, 2013. He illegally reentered the United States at an unknown time thereafter.
On May 28, 2024, Lopez-Perez was found in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, without having first obtained legal permission to reenter the United States.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The matter was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera prosecuted the case.
Lopez-Perez’s crimes have sent shockwaves through the community, with many left wondering how he was able to reenter the country undetected.
