A gruesome discovery shook the quiet streets of Tabor City, North Carolina, this week, as police found the lifeless bodies of Emmanuel Williamson and his wife, Ithha Laney Williamson, in their small bedroom on Pireway Road, just three miles from Goldsboro.
The coroner’s jury quickly determined that Emmanuel Williamson, 37, had indeed taken his own life, but not before turning a shotgun on his 35-year-old wife. The motive behind the tragic event remains unclear.
The couple’s home, once a beacon of hope and happiness, now stands as a haunting reminder of the dark underbelly of the town with a city future.
Meanwhile, a separate investigation into the drowning of 17-year-old Toby Fowler at Lake Tabor has led to the arrest of three Chadbourn youths. Freddy Hammonds, 18, Carlton Leonard, 17, and Junior Guyton, 28, were ordered to face grand jury action in connection with Fowler’s untimely death on October 10, 1958.
The trio, already on probation for prior offenses, have been released on bond. Hammonds, serving a five-year probation sentence for a prior crime, now faces even more serious charges.
The tragic events in Tabor City serve as a sobering reminder of the darker side of human nature. As the town continues to grow and prosper, its residents cannot help but wonder what drives individuals to such extremes.
