Enfield Man Sentenced for Gun Charge

CONCORD – Scotty Gonzalez, 29, of Enfield, has been sentenced to 29 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, Acting United States Attorney John J. Farley announced today.

Gonzalez, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction and a prior conviction for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. This, however, did not stop him from being found in possession of a rifle and over 300 rounds of ammunition at his residence in Enfield on July 31, 2019.

A probations officer had stumbled upon Gonzalez in possession of the firearm and ammunition, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Gonzalez previously pleaded guilty on April 29, 2021.

“In order to protect public safety, we must keep guns out of the hands of criminals,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Farley. “By working with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute armed criminals, we are helping to keep the citizens of the Granite State safe from violent crime.”

Special Agent in Charge James M. Ferguson of the ATF echoed Farley’s sentiments, stating that possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is not only illegal but also compromises the safety of communities. He commended the joint effort between the ATF and New Hampshire Probation and Parole Officers in bringing Gonzalez to justice.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with assistance from New Hampshire Probation and Parole Officers. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Krasinski.

While the sentencing of Gonzalez may serve as a deterrent to other criminals, it also highlights the need for vigilance in enforcing gun laws and keeping communities safe.

As the people of New Hampshire look to their law enforcement agencies to keep them safe, it is reassuring to know that efforts are being made to identify and prosecute armed criminals.

Gonzalez’s 29-month sentence is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to keeping the Granite State safe.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities, and those found in possession of firearms without the proper clearance will face the full force of the law.
