Alexandria, Va. – Honduran man Erasmo Alberto-Echeverria, 43, has pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States, a crime that has put him behind bars for a third time.
According to court documents, Alberto-Echeverria illegally reentered the United States after having been removed on two different occasions. His first removal occurred in 2010, following a conviction for misdemeanor hit and run and driving while under the influence of alcohol in Fairfax County in 2009. He was removed from the country by federal immigration authorities.
Alberto-Echeverria was arrested again in 2015 on an outstanding warrant for his misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. He was convicted of that offense in Fairfax County and was removed from the United States for the second time. He illegally reentered the country for a third time and was most recently discovered by immigration authorities after his arrest in Fairfax County in 2020 for the misdemeanors unlawful entry and destruction of property.
Alberto-Echeverria faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for November 13.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Alberto-Echeverria’s case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney William I. Friedman and Assistant U.S. Attorney Raizza K. Ty.
The case was announced by G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Matthew Munroe, Acting Director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Washington Field Office, after the plea was accepted by Senior U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton.
