PITTSBURGH, Pa. – United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced today that he will resign his position, effective 11:59 p.m. on January 19, 2025.

During his tenure, the office focused on tackling violent crime and serious narcotics offenses, bringing charges against various gangs and individuals involved in drug trafficking and violent crimes.

Some notable cases include:

24 members and associates of the “Drizzy” street gang for cocaine trafficking in Pittsburgh; 8 members and associates of the “Zhoove” street gang for fentanyl and cocaine trafficking in Pittsburgh; 19 defendants involved in an interstate DTO trafficking fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and oxycodone in New Castle; 35 members and associates of a cross-country and transnational DTO trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in the Johnstown area; 13 defendants involved in a DTO trafficking methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine in the Altoona area; and 26 regional drug dealers trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine in Erie.

Driving down the illicit sale and use of firearms was also a priority, with the office securing convictions of 3 defendants, including a former police officer who built and sold “hit kits” containing untraceable privately made firearms, silencers, subsonic ammunition, and latex gloves.

Eric G. Olshan, a dedicated public servant, expressed his gratitude to President Biden, Senator John Fetterman, and former Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey for their trust and faith in his ability to lead the office.

After 17 years of service, Olshan will depart on January 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to justice and the rule of law in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
