A massive heroin pipeline from Mexico to the streets of Bridgeport has been shut down after ERIC GREEN, 31, of Bridgeport, pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin. The admission marks the latest fall of a key player in a multi-year drug network that pumped at least 30 kilograms of high-purity heroin into struggling neighborhoods.
GREEN, once a central distributor in the operation, admitted to supplying more than three kilograms of heroin to his own network of buyers between April 2015 and March 2017. The drugs were smuggled from Mexico and funneled through a coordinated trafficking ring embedded in Bridgeport’s underground economy. Investigators confirmed the operation relied on encrypted communications and rapid street-level turnover to avoid detection.
The case exploded in March 2017 when a federal grand jury in Hartford indicted GREEN and six others on heroin trafficking and related charges. GREEN was taken into custody on March 24, 2017, following a series of controlled buys conducted by law enforcement. Evidence gathered during the probe included wiretaps, surveillance footage, and testimony from cooperating witnesses.
Now facing the full wrath of federal sentencing, GREEN is set to appear before U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant on June 20. He is exposed to a maximum penalty of life in prison, a consequence prosecutors say reflects the scale and danger of the drug ring he helped run. Each kilogram of heroin could have generated millions in illicit street sales, fueling addiction and violence across the region.
The takedown was the result of a joint investigation by the FBI’s Bridgeport Safe Streets Task Force, the DEA’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and the Bridgeport Police Department. Authorities say the collaboration cut off a major supply chain and disrupted a network that had grown increasingly bold in its operations.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph Vizcarrondo and Alina Reynolds are leading the prosecution. As sentencing nears, federal officials are emphasizing that no distributor — no matter how embedded — is untouchable. For Eric Green, the streets that once lined his pockets may now seal his fate behind bars for life.
