A Penn Hills man has pleaded guilty to federal gun charges, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said.
Erick Lamont Griffin, Jr., a/k/a Ericc Bucc, age 23, of Penn Hills, Pa, pleaded guilty to four counts of illegally possessing firearms and ammunition in federal court, according to Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song.
Griffin was previously convicted of felony drug dealing charges on November 18, 2013, but continued to possess firearms despite federal law prohibiting individuals with felony convictions from owning guns.
Between March 24 and June 13, 2016, Griffin accompanied a purchaser of firearms to a gun dealer on four separate occasions, taking possession of two 9 mm and two 40 caliber semiautomatic pistols.
Law enforcement officers recovered the firearms on July 13, 2016, after executing a search warrant at Griffin’s house and finding manufacturer’s boxes with serial numbers, extra magazines, a holster, and ammunition.
Griffin faces a sentence of up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $2,000,000, or both, according to the federal sentencing guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Ross E. Lenhardt of the Violent Crimes Section is prosecuting the case, and the ATF conducted the investigation.
Griffin has been remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing, which is scheduled for November 17, 2017.
At the time of the crimes, Griffin was on probation in Allegheny County.
Griffin’s prior conviction and illegal possession of firearms have led to his current charges and potential sentence.
