John Paul Donico, Wire Fraud, Pennsylvania 2011

FBI Investigation Leads to Shocking $350,000 Scam

In a stunning turn of events, a 65-year-old Erie man has been slapped with an eight-count indictment on wire fraud charges, following a meticulous FBI investigation.

According to the indictment, John Paul Donico, a resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, duped a Mexican construction company out of $350,000 by promising to secure financing for the construction of a rock crushing plant. However, Donico failed to deliver on his promise, leaving the company high and dry.

The indictment, which was presented to the court, outlines the shocking scheme that unfolded between May 2011 and July 2012. During this period, Donico allegedly used his charisma and charm to convince the Mexican company to part with its hard-earned cash.

As a result of his alleged crimes, Donico faces a maximum sentence of 160 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offenses and Donico’s prior criminal history, if any.

Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is leading the prosecution in this case, with the FBI conducting the investigation that led to Donico’s indictment.

It is worth noting that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Donico is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The people of Erie are left to wonder how such a brazen scam could have taken place under their noses, and what measures can be put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
