A California man is facing a lawsuit to have his citizenship revoked after being convicted of heinous sex crimes against minors.
Erwin Galindo, a former U.S. citizen, was convicted in California of two counts of lewd or lascivious acts upon a child and was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison.
Galindo, according to court documents, engaged in several unlawful sexual acts with minors prior to naturalizing and withheld information about these illegal acts during the naturalization process.
The federal government alleges that Galindo’s actions warrant the revocation of his 2015 naturalization under 8 U.S.C. § 1451.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, ‘This Administration will continue to strip citizenship from those who commit heinous crimes and conceal them during the naturalization process.’
Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate added, ‘A monster who commits horrific acts of sexual abuse against children should not ever have become a U.S. citizen.’
The case is being prosecuted by the Justice Department’s Office of Immigration Litigation, Affirmative Litigation Unit, with assistance from ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations.
