Garey A. Buscaino, Child Pornography Production and Possession, Florida 2015

PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – A former member of Pensacola’s fire department is facing federal charges following a decade-long investigation into the production and possession of horrific material. Garey A. Buscaino, 48, has been indicted on charges that detail a pattern of abuse stretching back to 2015. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida announced the indictment today, sending shockwaves through the usually quiet Gulf Coast city.

The indictment alleges Buscaino produced child pornography featuring four different minor females between 2015 and 2025. He’s also been charged with possession of child pornography depicting minors under the age of 12. The specifics of the alleged production and distribution remain sealed, but sources within the investigation confirm the volume of evidence is substantial and deeply disturbing.

U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin’s office is prosecuting the case, with Assistant United States Attorney David L. Goldberg leading the charge. Buscaino is scheduled to appear before United States Magistrate Judge Zachary C. Bolitho at the Pensacola courthouse on July 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. for arraignment. Expect a packed courtroom and a significant media presence.

If convicted on all counts, Buscaino faces a potentially devastating sentence. He could receive up to 30 years’ imprisonment for each minor victim involved in the production of child pornography. The possession charges carry a potential sentence of up to 20 years. The combined penalties could effectively mean a life sentence for the former first responder.

The investigation is a joint effort between the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, highlighting the collaborative nature of tackling this particularly vile form of crime. This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute perpetrators, as well as rescue victims.

It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is not proof of guilt. Buscaino is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, the evidence presented to the grand jury clearly indicated enough probable cause to move forward with these serious federal charges. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
