Ex-Police Officer Giarrusso Indicted for Child Pornography

BOSTON — John Giarrusso, a former Seabrook, N.H., police officer, has been indicted on federal charges of receiving child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

The 49-year-old Haverhill man was arrested in August 2025 and faces one count of receipt of child pornography, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Giarrusso is alleged to have knowingly received video files depicting children between five to 11 years old on Kik, a messaging app, from October 16 through October 17, 2024. The charges carry a sentence of at least five years and up to 20 years in prison, along with supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England. Assistance was provided by the Haverhill Police Department and Essex County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica L. Soto is prosecuting.

Giarrusso’s arraignment in federal court in Boston is set for a later date. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
