Ex-Trucker Nelson Pleads Guilty to Bribery at MCLB-Albany

Former trucking company driver David R. Nelson has pleaded guilty to paying bribes to employees at the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany (MCLB-Albany) in exchange for lucrative freight hauling business. The 54-year-old from Lucedale, Mississippi, admitted to funneling over $100,000 to officials in MCLB-Albany’s Traffic Office between 2006 and 2012.

Nelson confessed that the bribes began at $500 per shipment and escalated to as much as $1,500. With the proceeds from these shipments, he purchased a $50,000 trailer for carrying multiple Protected Security Service loads. Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell and U.S. Attorney Michael J. Moore of the Middle District of Georgia announced the charges.

Under his plea agreement with the U.S., Nelson has agreed to forfeit all proceeds from the bribery scheme and pay full restitution to the Department of Defense. Sentencing is scheduled at a later date, following investigations by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.

The prosecution of this case was handled by Trial Attorneys Richard B. Evans, J.P. Cooney, John Keller, and Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Alan Dasher.

David R. Nelson now faces the consequences of his actions, marking a significant victory for justice and integrity within the military base’s Traffic Office.
