FALL RIVER, MA – Evaldo Ferreira Pinto, 51, is facing federal charges after allegedly violating deportation orders and returning to the United States. The Brazilian national was indicted by a federal grand jury this week, adding another name to the growing list of individuals attempting to circumvent U.S. immigration laws.
Pinto, currently held in custody, stands accused of one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. According to charging documents, Pinto was discovered in Fall River on August 7, 2025, despite being previously removed from the country on or about May 31, 2019. The details of his initial deportation remain murky, but the feds are treating this as a clear-cut case of ignoring a lawful order.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Leah B. Foley, isn’t playing games. If convicted, Pinto faces a harsh sentence: up to 10 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. A hefty fine of up to $250,000 could also be levied. But the prison term isn’t the end of the line; upon completion of any sentence, Pinto will be subject to deportation – again. This time, authorities intend to make it stick.
Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, confirmed the ongoing investigation. “We are committed to enforcing the laws of this country and removing those who have been lawfully deported,” Hyde stated. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elianna J. Nuzum, known within the Criminal Division for pursuing immigration-related offenses with vigor.
The government stresses that the allegations contained within the charging documents are just that – allegations. Pinto is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, the evidence presented will likely paint a picture of deliberate disregard for U.S. immigration policy, a pattern authorities are determined to break.
This case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by federal law enforcement in managing immigration and enforcing deportation orders. While details surrounding Pinto’s initial removal and subsequent return remain scarce, the prosecution promises a full accounting of the facts during the upcoming arraignment in Boston federal court. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it develops, bringing you the unvarnished truth from the streets and the courtrooms.
