CONCORD – The grim tale of Farmington’s Sasha Rand, 34, reached a new chapter as she entered a guilty plea in federal court for her role in the sinister world of fentanyl trafficking. United States Attorney Scott W. Murray dropped the bombshell during today’s press conference.
According to court documents and statements made within the grim confines of the courtroom, Rand, along with her husband Derek Rand, conducted a drug-smuggling operation from late 2017 until December 18, 2018. The couple allegedly employed New Hampshire-based couriers to fetch fentanyl from Massachusetts and distribute it in their home state. During the DEA-led investigation, authorities managed to seize over one kilogram of this deadly substance from Rand’s criminal syndicate.
Both Rands were nabbed by law enforcement on December 18, 2018, during a DEA-led takedown targeting fentanyl traffickers in the Rochester area. Derek Rand, who played the enforcer for his wife’s empire, was sentenced to 90 months in federal prison in December 2019.
Sasha Rand is now facing her own fate, set to be sentenced on December 21st, 2020. “Interstate fentanyl traffickers are causing tremendous damage to communities throughout New Hampshire,” U.S. Attorney Murray ominously warned. “To safeguard public health and safety, we will keep up our relentless pursuit of drug traffickers across the Granite State.”
This harrowing case was meticulously investigated by the DEA, the New Hampshire State Police, and the Dover Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Davis is handling the prosecution with a grim determination to bring justice to those affected by Rand’s activities.
