PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Another dealer peddling poison and packing heat is facing a long stretch behind bars. Daniel George, 36, of Farrell, Pennsylvania, admitted in federal court today to a two-count indictment involving hard drugs and an illegally possessed firearm. The bust underscores the relentless flow of narcotics and associated violence plaguing communities across the state.
According to Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti, George pleaded guilty before Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak to possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base, alongside quantities of fentanyl and cocaine. The July 7, 2022, offenses didn’t stop there; George was also found to be in possession of a firearm directly linked to his drug trafficking activities. This isn’t a simple possession charge – it’s about criminals arming themselves while pushing deadly substances.
The feds aren’t playing games here. George is looking at a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, potentially escalating to a life sentence. He also faces a hefty fine – up to $5,250,000. The final sentence, however, will be determined by the seriousness of the crimes and any previous run-ins with the law. Federal Sentencing Guidelines will be the deciding factor, ensuring a punishment that fits the severity of his actions.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is leading the prosecution, building a solid case against George. The investigation was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Mercer County Drug Task Force, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. These agencies worked in unison to dismantle George’s operation and bring him to justice.
This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative designed to bring law enforcement and communities together to combat violent crime and gun violence. Launched in May 2021, PSN’s strategy focuses on building trust with communities, supporting local violence prevention programs, prioritizing targeted enforcement, and – crucially – tracking results. It’s about more than just arrests; it’s about long-term safety.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as sentencing approaches. George’s plea serves as a stark reminder that those who profit from the misery of others, and who endanger public safety by combining drugs and firearms, will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
