FCI Schuylkill Inmate Pleads Guilty to Assault with a Deadly Weapon
SCRANTON, PA – In a shocking turn of events, Jared Sebaugh, a 36-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution, Schuylkill, in Minersville, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon on April 26, 2024.
According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Sebaugh, formerly of Olmstead Falls, Ohio, admitted to assaulting another inmate with a prison-made weapon consisting of a combination lock attached to a cloth strap, with the intent to do bodily harm.
The charges stem from an incident in February 2023, in which Sebaugh allegedly used the homemade weapon to assault another inmate. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Service.
Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara is prosecuting the case. Sebaugh’s plea marks a significant development in the case, and it remains to be seen what sentence he will face.
Under federal law, the maximum penalty for assault with a deadly weapon is 10 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The sentence will be imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Julia K. Munley after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Sebaugh’s guilty plea serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that exist within the federal prison system. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
The incident highlights the need for increased security measures within federal prisons, and it raises questions about the effectiveness of the current system. As the investigation unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Sebaugh’s case is handled and what consequences he will face.
In the meantime, the public can take comfort in knowing that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons Special Investigative Service are working tirelessly to keep inmates and staff safe.
