A federal task force is cracking down on antisemitism in four major US cities.
The Federal Task Force to Combat Antisemitism has notified local leaders in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston that it wants to meet with them to discuss their responses to incidents of antisemitism at schools and on college campuses.
The task force, created in response to President Trump’s Executive Order on Additional Measures to Combat Anti-Semitism, plans to engage with local leadership, including mayors, district attorneys, and law enforcement officials.
According to Leo Terrell, a leading member of the task force, the cities’ schools may have failed to protect Jewish students from discrimination, potentially violating federal law.
Terrell said the task force will meet with city leaders, students, law enforcement, and community members as it gathers information and considers whether federal intervention is necessary.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi said that too many elected officials have failed to address the rising tide of antisemitism in their cities and campuses.
‘Actions have consequences – inaction does, too,’ Bondi said.
The task force’s visit to the four cities comes as a response to the horrific events of October 7, 2023, which saw a surge in antisemitic incidents.
Those who believe they have been discriminated against can file a complaint with the Civil Rights Division at civilrights.justice.gov.
The president’s Executive Order can be found at Additional Measures to Combat Anti-Semitism – The White House.
