PHILADELPHIA, PA – In a brazen act of corruption, Amara Dukuly, a 43-year-old immigration officer from Brookhaven, PA, is facing federal charges for soliciting bribes in exchange for immigration services.
According to the Department of Justice, Dukuly used his position at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to extract payments from individuals seeking immigration assistance.
The indictment alleges that between 2015 and the present, Dukuly solicited bribes from individuals in exchange for promises to help them obtain adjustments to their immigration status, including green cards, work authorization documents, and visas.
What’s appalling is that Dukuly didn’t have the authority to perform the tasks he promised, making his actions all the more egregious. He allegedly converted the bribes for his personal benefit, further demonstrating his brazen disregard for ethics.
The investigation into Dukuly’s activities is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this case or other government employees soliciting bribes to come forward.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General, HSI, and the FBI are leading the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Anita Eve handling the prosecution.
Dukuly remains innocent until proven guilty in court, a notion that seems increasingly unlikely given the weight of evidence against him.
