A brazen scam targeting COVID-19 food aid has claimed five more collars in Minnesota. Ikram Yusuf Mohamed, Aisha Hassan Hussein, Sahra Sharif Osman, Shakur Abdinur Abdisalam, and Fadumo Mohamed Yusuf pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with the sprawling Feeding Our Future scheme.
The scammers, who included family members and friends, ran phony food program sites in Minneapolis and its suburbs and a food distribution entity, raking in $14.6 million in Federal Child Nutrition Program funds meant for hungry kids.
Prosecutors say Mohamed, a 42-year-old leader in the scheme, used her position as a consultant to Feeding Our Future to conceal her involvement, putting sites and entities in the names of loved ones and creating a food distribution company.
US Attorney Daniel N. Rosen’s team has landed 63 convictions in the Feeding Our Future case, the largest number of convictions in a single fraud investigation by the US Attorney’s Office in recent memory.
