Felipe Omar Hernandez-Gonzalez, a 36-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after deportation.
According to court records, Hernandez-Gonzalez was deported in April 2018 after he was charged with DUI and assaulting his girlfriend in Hoover in February 2018. However, he managed to re-enter the country and was brought to law enforcement’s attention again in the summer of 2025 after he beat and choked his current girlfriend in Walker County, Alabama.
Court records also revealed that Hernandez-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to and was sentenced for assault of his four-month-old daughter in September 2017. The baby was taken to Children’s of Alabama where she was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma from severe head trauma.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the U.S. government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Cross prosecuted the case.
Felipe Omar Hernandez-Gonzalez, a man with a history of violent crime, has finally been held accountable for his actions. His sentence of 18 months in prison is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.
This case serves as a reminder that those who commit crimes and are deported will be held accountable if they choose to re-enter the United States. The U.S. government will continue to work to protect its citizens from the threats posed by illegal immigration and violent crime.
Felipe Omar Hernandez-Gonzalez is currently in custody and will begin serving his sentence. It is unclear what the future holds for him after his release, but one thing is certain – his actions will have consequences.
