Eric Tollefson, Felon in Possession of Firearms, New York 2018

Grimy Times has learned that a local man has been convicted of possessing 11 firearms despite being a convicted felon.

According to court documents, Eric Tollefson, 63, was found to be in illegal possession of the guns after law enforcement agents visited his Albany home on November 2, 2018. The agents were there to arrest Tollefson, who was wanted in Virginia in connection with a narcotics case.

When the agents entered the residence, they observed the firearms in plain view. The total count included nine rifles, a pistol, and a shotgun. At the time of the arrest, Tollefson was a multiple-time convicted felon, with a previous conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Tollefson faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for August 24, 2021.

The case was investigated by the FBI, with assistance from the ATF, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Albany Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah McEwen is prosecuting the case.

Acting U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary commended everyone involved in the trial for ensuring that justice was delivered safely and fairly. The trial marked the first criminal jury trial in the Middle District of Georgia since the COVID-19 pandemic jury trial restrictions were lifted in May 2021.

U.S. District Judge Leslie Gardner is presiding over the case. Grimy Times will continue to monitor the developments in this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
